What's Ahead For Alaska Travel As We Move Into 2022?
Jim Marini, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships for Railbookers, says that seeing Alaska by land is still trending for travelers booking for 2022.
While many consumers had to make the switch from cruise to rail last year when the ships simply weren’t allowed to cruise Alaska, travelers still want to tour by land now and in the coming year. Here’s why:
- Touring Alaska by land is popular because, as opposed to cruising — which typically means one departure a week on a set day — there are multiple departures weekly from June through September. Additionally, any trip can be customized in length so travelers are not not stuck to a fixed weekly itinerary.
- Travelers also love the fact that full-day guided tours in Denali National Park with a local tour guide are included on all itineraries and a variety of optional tours are offered including the very popular dog sledding.
- Touring Alaska by train is actually like being on a land cruise because if passengers upgrade to Gold Star Service while onboard the train, they have the following included:
- Seats in the Glass Dome Car with amazing views all around them
- Comfort of having their own tour guide during the day as they travel from one destination to another
- Their own Private Bar Car where they get 2 complimentary drinks included
- Their own outdoor viewing platform where they can smell the fresh Alaska air
- Packages include all their meals throughout their journey while onboard the train
Railbookers has also noticed the biggest reasons people are traveling to Alaska right now is that it is on their wish list/bucket list. People also want to travel there to celebrate a special anniversary or birthday.
These are the itineraries Railbookers is seeing heavy activity for:
- Grand Alaska Adventure with Alaska Railroad (in both directions – northbound and southbound) – 10 days priced from $3,149 per person
- Alaska Adventure with Alaska Railroad – 9 days from $2,949 per person
- Denali Express with Alaska Railroad – 6 days from $1,499
- Alaska Railroad in Winter Anchorage to Fairbanks – 5 days from $849
I’m happy to set up an interview with Jim if you would like to talk about this topic in greater detail.
Thanks for your time.
