This is what Railbookers is calling the growing trend of travelers who are spending more on travel than ever before. We are talking reservations for travel with a price tag of $25K, $50K, and even $75K!
Here are some points you might find of interest:
- For Railbookers specifically, the Average Sell At Rate for 2021 Travel (late summer and fall) is +56% higher than 2019 (Pre-COVID Level Average Sell At Rate) and +91% up for 2022.
- The company has seen price tags for travel booked this year (primarily for actual travel in 2022) higher than ever before. While every trip is different and can be completely customized, they are seeing people upgrading to private sleeper cabins on the trains, adding in stays in suites in hotels, and traveling longer overall by combining itineraries to reach these high numbers.
- Customers are adding more to their trips, staying longer and adding luxury as they have not traveled in a year. Much of this is delayed celebrations where people missed birthday’s, anniversaries, etc.
- Whereas prior to COVID people would plan that "bucket list" trip and travel on the Venice Simplon Orient Express OR the Glacier and Bernina Express, now we are seeing them combine BOTH trips together.
- There has been such a significant increase in request for luxury travel, that Railbookers created a Luxury Travel brochure to accommodate all of the requests.
- Some of the more popular itineraries which comprise these "Godzilla Bookings" include: Venice Simplon-Orient-Express from Paris to Venice and Rome, Belmond Royal Scotsman Scotland’s Classic Splendours, and Grand Tour of Switzerland.
- Nearly ever call Railbookers — and sister company Amtrak Vacations (national tour operator for Amtrak) — is receiving starts off pretty much the same: "I've gotten vaccinated, where can I go?"
